The Sesquicentennial Exposition stamp was issued in 1926 to commemorate the 1926 World's Fair in Philadelphia. The fair was created to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and also the 50th anniversary of the Centennial Exposition. The fair opened on May 31, 1926. The fair drew much lower attendance than anticipated and was subsequently unable to cover its debts. Its assets were sold at auction in 1927 after being placed into receivership.
The Sesquicentennial Exposition stamp was issued on May 10, 1926 and carried a value of 2 cents. The stamp featured the Liberty Bell along with the dates 1776 and 1926. The stamp is #627 in the Scott catalog and carries used values of .50 and unused values of $2.75.
